Short Film Review: The Planet That Doesn’t Exist

This is the tragic and emotional story of a young scientist, Professor of Astronomy Star l’Etoile, who did not have time to make her most significant discovery in life due to her untimely death. This story is symbolic because the author of this comic, Navy Bird, died without ever seeing her main book, “Arlekino & Pirrot,” published. She had been working on it for the last two years. She was killed at the age of 24.

Review by Andie Kay:

This beautiful short film is based on the comic book from Navy Bird and Directed by Nadav Embon. The art and animation style definitely honors the artwork of Navy Bird in its vibrant colors and emotionally driven story. Chem Adams and Yotam Tweg handled the design and
animation and what a sensational job they did.

The voice over for the lead character was Alexandra Leitner and she did an amazing job with the inflection, pace and really breathed emotional life into this character. The story itself has a marvelous twist to it that you don’t see coming and the music tied it all together with an original score by Ori Dekel.

I loved the film and how it honored the original artist who sadly passed away. I also commend Navy Bird’s mom for sponsoring this film, what a beautiful tribute to a wonderful artist who will be solely missed.
